Lacrosse is one of many sports. Yet, it is and is going to be the most growing sport in the future! This is a game where you put 9 players against 9 players. Lacrosse was invented by the American Indians from the Great Lakes Region, they were also known as stickball played by the Iroquois tribe. From a sport that was only played in the North Eastern Region of the United States fast forward to 2025, it’s one of the most growing sports in the world.. In the next 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Lacrosse would officially be introduced as one of the sports that will be organized.
Recently, Lacrosse has been the sport that is experiencing significant growth in the number of youth participants across the country. In just 2023, there had been a record of 1.2 million players across the whole US; there has been a significant twenty percent increase from the last decade in youth participation. Why is this happening? Lacrosse is appealing to athletes that could not compete in very hard sports like football and basketball. It was viewed as safer contact compared to football or hockey. Many state high schools other than New York and Maryland, where they are strongholds of lacrosse, also embrace this sport like Virginia or California. Right now at the high school level, there are approximately 300,000 players from all backgrounds competing with each other across the US.
The NCAA, an organization that administers student-athletic programs across the US and Canada has recently recognized lacrosse to be one the fastest growing college sports. There has been an increase of men and women lacrosse programs over the last two years. With over 400 men’s and women’s lacrosse varsity teams across Division I, II and III.. This shows that lacrosse is gaining a massive attraction and people are starting to catch on to the “ wind of lacrosse”. In college businesses, colleges like Maryland, Syracuse and University of Virginia have generated millions of dollars through lacrosse ticket sales, sponsorships, merch and apparels. Division I men’ programs would operate between $500,000 to $2 million dollars.
The sport is also growing massively outside of the US. There are new leagues and national teams constantly forming across the whole world just to play lacrosse and represent their nation. In just 20 years from 2003 to 2023, the World Lacrosse has increased 430% in country members
Lacrosse is also gaining media visibility. Professional leagues like the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and National Lacrosse League (NLL) have expanded and gained massive attraction through social media posts. Big media channels like ESPN or ABC have posted many social media posts about lacrosse that would gain massive traction across social media. In 2022, ESPN reported that the Cannons-Archere game averaged 452,000 viewers and this is the most viewers watching at a time for the sport. Platforms like Instagram, Youtube and Tik Tok have been a massive rocket boost to attract younger fans and athletes across the whole world.

This allows for the Lacrosse Equipment Industry to thrive on to the success of the main sport itself. Brands that are very familiar when players are putting on their pads or helmets like Cascade and STX have generated over $1.2 billion dollars in one year and the revenues would just keep growing 4-5% annually. This allows for more thriving opportunities for lacrosse to grow as there are many economic chances appearing around the sport. If Lacrosse keeps going in this positive direction, it wouldn’t be afraid to say Lacrosse could be compared to other sports like swimming, golf or even basketball! Lacrosse is growing a massive increase of 147% on broadcasting views. Everyday you come to your nearby field/ sport field, you would sometimes see lacrosse youth camps playing U9 or U11s. It shows that more people are getting to know about lacrosse. In just a few years, there will probably be even more profitable to be invested in than golf or tennis in the US!
